An event frozen in the body

We have all experienced stressful events in our lives; whether from an accident, a fall, a medical procedure, abuse or attack.  When does this become a trauma that stays with us for days, weeks or years?  Why do some people bounce back while some become unable to cope?

As we meet a distressing situation, our bodies respond by going into a self-protective response  ~ fight, flight or freeze. These natural responses are designed to both minimize the threat to our lives and the potential damage to our brain and body. The trauma comes when these natural survival strategies are unsuccessful, we feel powerless and the energy of the incomplete strategy becomes locked in the body.
