Somatic Experiencing is a Naturalistic

Approach to Healing Trauma

     Somatic Experiencing (SE) offers a new and hopeful perspecive on overwhelming events locked in the body. SE is based on the observations of Peter Levine, Ph.D. of animals in the wild. He discovered that, after a stressful encounter, animals discharge the built up energy  in the body by literally 'shaking it off'.  

 

     SE supports the renegotiation and resolution of a traumatic shock allowing the time and space for the nervous system to unwind and release the locked energy: to 'shake it off'.  This release frees up energy for healing, for our lives, our work, our relationships.  We build internal and external resources, resilience in the nervous system and the capacity to handle the challenges of life with ease and grace.
